Risks faced by Chinese women

Risks faced by Chinese women

Summary

China is the only country in the world where women commit suicide more than men, as stated by Christopher Allen for the BBC News. The suicide rate in countryside areas appears to be three times higher than in the cities due to the readily available poisons that are used on the farms. Also, it is indicated that the arranged marriages there cause excessive stress on the wife, with trying to get the entire family members' acceptance resulting in resentment and conflicts. The country’s attitude towards favourite birth being males has led to an increase in abortion of female unborn babies. This may lead to crimes against women in the future when the male population will be more than the female. The nation has formed support groups to deal with the prevention of suicide and the training for women to help in their daily lives.

The alternative is moving into the cities to try to obtain factory work. The move to the city has risks also from abuse from their employers or bad working conditions. The women in future have as an option either the support training from the government or work in the factories. They are gaining confidence to go on their own, and break away from the trend of abuse and suicide.

Main Idea

Risks faced by Chinese women are too many in China nowadays from their living conditions and the pressure of difficulties makes women try killing themselves.

Comment

It is a very dangerous situation in China from the number of women trying to commit suicide. I think the Chinese government should find some quick solutions for this disaster. I think because there are no skills and religion for a lot of Chinese women, so there is nothing to stop them from trying to commit suicide.
